Is an “Office on Wheels” The Next Big Trend?

Monday, June 30th, 2014

For many years, the traditional office design was static. Employees were relegated to their individual cubicles, management had corner offices with heavy, imposing furniture, and the overall effect was perhaps too serious. After all, an office should be a place where your employees feel free to collaborate, explore, create, and discover new innovations that will make your company even better at what they do. You can help foster this kind of environment with custom office furniture that takes into account one of the buzzword of 2014: mobility.

Mobility does not just have to apply to the idea of taking your business out to the streets with your smart phone or tablet- you can achieve mobility even within your office walls. A big new trend in office furniture is wheels; not just wheeled chairs, but desks, tables, lamps, and stools as well. What is the benefit of having wheeled furniture? Think about it like this: when your employees are kept confined to small work areas that remain the same day after day, this can have a negative effect on productivity. When you have an “office on wheels,” this provides no end of opportunities to change things up and keep your office environment dynamic! Rearrange furniture with ease to break off into collaborative groups, set up a “discussion round table,” and encourage change and openness among your employees. You can reconfigure your office layout as often as you choose when the majority of the furniture is mobile, and this is turn will inspire your employees to think outside of the box. A creative environment is necessary to inspire creativity, so why not try with custom wheeled furniture?

Where Can I Find Quality Dormitory Furniture?

Monday, June 23rd, 2014

For a college student, a dormitory serves as much more than just a place to sleep. It becomes an office, a living room, a study area, a kitchen, and a gathering place for friends. A dorm is a high-traffic area, and so the furniture in it needs to be able to serve a variety of purposes and to be able to stand up to year after year of wear and tear. When considering how to furnish a university or college dormitory, American Design Associates can work with you to determine what pieces will be able to stand the test of time (and frat boys).

For individual rooms

Of all the areas in a dormitory, the individual rooms go through the most use. But because universities have to accommodate thousands of students, often time dorm rooms are on the smaller size. Consider furniture that will pull double duty: a dresser that can be topped with a bookshelf, beds that rise up to allow for space underneath, or a desk with ample storage. Think also of furniture that can piece together like a puzzle. Many desks can be designed to overlap with shelving and beds can be lofted in order to set up an office space underneath. Another important thing to consider is how the furniture will work with each student’s style; if it’s going to be their home for the next four years, they’re going to want to personalize it. Furniture that is neutral in color and non-specific in design won’t clash with their décor and will allow them to adapt the space to their own preferences.

For the common areas

Here, durability is the keyword. For common areas such as lounges, TV rooms, and kitchens, the number of students who have access to and are using the spaces increases, and so the furniture you provide will have to be tough enough to deal with all that use. Think of sturdy, dark colored tables for kitchens (less likely to show any staining from spilled ramen noodles) and couches and chairs with firm, full padding so they are less likely to sag over the years.

Is There a Way to Repurpose Office Furniture?

Monday, June 16th, 2014

Are you in the process of giving your office a much-needed makeover? Are you left with a pile of chairs, desks, and bookcases that are still perfectly good, but maybe just not to your taste anymore? Rather than trying to stuff them all in a dumpster or carting them off to a landfill, consider the other uses for your old office furniture. American Design Associates offers you the opportunity not to let those furnishings go to waste.

 Why Repurpose?

If your heart is set on a fantastic, updated office design, than stick to your new furniture and sell the old. Pre-owned furniture that is still in great condition can make for a cost-effective choice for a new or smaller business. New business often need to reserve their capital for other expenses, but they don’t want to have to make sacrifices with something as essential to their company’s image as office furniture. Repurposing your old office furniture, from the files to the artwork, with sellers like American Design Associates is both earth-friendly and beneficial to these kinds of businesses who could use a helping hand.

Why Restore?

Maybe you’re not looking to go all out with your office renovations; it could simply be time to spruce up the place. Restoring your existing office furniture, whether that means reupholstering reception-area couches, staining wood desks to give them a shiny new finish, or repainting shelving in a warm, welcoming color, can be a great option. You don’t have to deal with the expense of a completely new set up, but you still get the wow factor of a like-new office design.

Why Remanufacture?

Maybe your business is expanding and you need a place for your seven new hires to sit! American Design Associates is able to remanufacture any of your existing office furniture. Remanufacturing your existing furniture means that things will all look consistent and professional, rather than the haphazard, thrown-together look you might get with mismatched desks or chairs.

Does Color Matter in Motivating Workers in Your Business Environment?

Tuesday, June 10th, 2014

Interior Designer There are plenty of ways to provide your employees with a comfortable business environment in which they can be their most productive. Some of these ways might seem more obvious, such as providing them with quality furniture, technology, and of course, good coffee. But when you’re planning your office design, as Towson’s American Design Associates knows, even the smallest details can make a huge difference in employee productivity.

Color psychology is the idea that the colors we are surrounded by can affect our mood. Your goal in your office design is not only to keep your employees feeling happy, but also motivated and excited about reaching the business’s goals. Choosing the right color for your office can be the key to ensuring that everyone performs their best the whole week through. So which colors exactly are going to get you the results you want?

Staying neutral

Neutral palettes can be very conducive to a welcoming work environment. Think of tones such as gray, tan, or beige; they can be pleasant and pretty without being a distraction. A neutral paint palette can also provide a great backdrop for colorful accents, making for an office design that won’t overwhelm employees or clients.

Warming up

Warmer colors also have their place in the office. Colors such as orange and yellow in various shades are said to be very effective stimulators. Take it a step further with a gold-tone yellow; gold is the color that evokes the ideas of perfection, success, and quality. The one caveat with warm tones? Keep things muted; bright or neon shades of the color can be too jarring for an effective office design.

Cooling down

On the flipside of the rainbow, we have cooler colors. These can be equally good choices for your office interior, depending on the kind of mood you want to set for your employees. Blue shades are great for alleviating stress and keeping your workers feeling calm throughout the day. And it doesn’t take more than a quick peek out the window to see one of the best color choices for your office: green. Green shades are among the most abundant in nature, and so can give your employees a sense of both familiarity and of growth. To keep your employees comfortable, green may be the way to go.

While ultimately your office design involves a variety of factors, starting with your paint color selection is what sets the mood. Consider the kind of environment you want to create for your business, and contact American Design Associates in Towson, MD at 410-823-5500 or visit our homepage at americandesignonline.com.
