Organize Your Office to Boost Productivity

Tuesday, August 26th, 2014

If you find that your office is a mess, chances are, the work you’re producing in it is just as bad! In order to maintain high levels of productivity and keep yourself on track, you need to have an organized, well-designed office space. So how exactly can you optimize your furniture and office accessories to create the best workspace possible? American Design Associates has the answer.

Get your office space organized

The first design aspect you’ll need to deal with when organizing your office is your desk. The right desk can make a world of difference when it comes to your capacity to stay organized. Choose a desk with a lot of built-in storage; that way, you won’t have to clutter up your office with too many additional cabinets. Your desk is your primary workspace, and so you can use its drawers to hold your most essential, everyday items and supplies. Do you constantly refer to a manual or file? Store it in the top right drawer. Need a notepad on hand to take down messages and memos? Keep that there as well! The less frequently you use something, the further away from yourself you can store it.

You’ll want to think of how to go about organizing your other files and documents that are maybe not essential to see on a daily basis but are still important to your work. These kinds of papers tend to get stacked up on desks or in piles on the floor- combat this clutter with shelving! Tall, slender shelves do not take up a lot of space, they have visual appeal, and they keep your files where you need them. You can also opt for horizontal shelving that is built in to the wall, rather than having a base. That way, you have more floor space to take advantage of!

Designing the Perfect Conference Room

Wednesday, August 20th, 2014

The conference room is in many ways the heart of the office- it is the gathering place for company meetings, the collaborative space for group projects, and the center for presentations of new and innovative ideas. In order to ensure that you are best utilizing your conference room, you will need to know the best method of design for the space. Luckily, the office design experts from American Design Associates are here to help!

Key Components of a Conference Room

One thing you will want to be sure to feature in your conference room is modern furnishings. You do not want your business to look antiquated or outdated in any way, as this could indicate to potential clients that you are behind the times and not prepare to evolve in the current business world. Modern furnishings with contemporary, clean lines are a subtle way of indicating that you stay on the cutting edge in your chosen field and are prepared to stay ahead of the pack.

Another thing to keep in mind when designing your conference space is the many uses of the room. Because you will have things like product pitches and presentations held in the conference room, you do not want there to be too many distractions for your speakers. That being said, neither do you want bare, clinical-looking walls. Be selective with these kinds of design details then; you can have art hung on the walls so long as it is minimalistic and doesn’t clutter up the space, or consider installing bookcases or shelving to give the room a sense of depth and texture without overfilling it.

As far as the actual composition of the room goes, bear in mind that while oftentimes the people in the room will be focused on a solitary speaker, you want to encourage discussion and collaboration when appropriate. Rounded or elliptical-shaped tables are the ideal way to ensure that everyone can see and hear each other during group meetings.

The Benefits of Ergonomic Furniture

Tuesday, August 12th, 2014

Your typical 9 to 5 employee spends a lot of time working at their desk. But if that chair they are sitting in is not designed well, then that eight-hour day can start to feel much, much longer, and employees can start to feel much, much less motivated. So is there a solution to the problems brought about by uncomfortable office furniture? American Design Associates has the answer for you: ergonomic furniture!

Ergonomic furniture is furniture designed with the human body in mind. Being seated all day long can be unhealthy if you are not seated properly, and ergonomic furniture works to encourage correct posture and and overall comfortable sitting position. But the benefits of this kind of furniture extend far beyond comfort.

 Health Benefits of Ergonomic Furniture

The stress put on our bodies when we sit incorrectly can lead to a wide range of health problems. Fatigue, chronic pain, sciatica, and carpal tunnel can all arise from the use of poorly designed office furniture. But with ergonomic furniture, you can eliminate the risks for some of these problems, and in the process eliminate the need for employees to take time off to deal with their health issues.

 Productivity Benefits of Ergonomic Furniture

In addition to your employees being able to be present for work, comfortable furniture will actually encourage them to keep working. When you sit in an uncomfortable chair, you are more likely to get up, take breaks, and walk around the office losing valuable work time, rather than staying seated and productive.

There are many reasons to select ergonomic furniture for your office, but the top one is that American Design Associates can work with you to determine the best choices for your business! Give us a call today.

Technology Changes Office Design Needs

Monday, August 4th, 2014

As technology develops and changes, so do the needs of the typical business. More and more, we find that our smart phones, tablets, and other mobile devices are more integral to how we do our jobs, rather than the desk phones and computers of the last decade. This, at least, is the point raised in a recent article from NPR, and in it, another question is raised: Does this shift towards mobile business mean we no longer need an office desk? Simply put, no, it does not. What it does mean, however, is that office furniture designers and vendors have to take into consideration some new options when it comes to traditional office furnishing, and American Design Associates has some insights into what will work best for a modern office setting.

First, consider all of that technology you use on a regular basis. Your desk can be made to accommodate them; increasingly, we are seeing desks equipped for USB ports and with clever ways of disguising or storing wires so that the overall look you are left with is streamlined and organized. The desk itself can be more streamlined as well; when it does not need to hold a clunky desktop computer, your desk can take up less room in your office and allow for other, necessary furnishings to fit in.

Another innovation to consider is desks that are adjustable. Some desks are height adjustable and allow the user to work either while seated or while standing, which can provide workers with a much-needed change of pace throughout the day. Desks with adjustable lengths, too, have found their way into the market and are ideal for group collaboration sessions; expand the desk while working together and contract it when its just back to one person.

The modern office design is sleek, efficient, and innovative. In order to keep up with the fast-paced business world, call American Design Associates today for more information.
