This is Why Your Back Hurts in Your Office Chair

office chair

Are your back and neck feeling the effects of sitting in a crummy chair all day?

Without a high quality ergonomic office chair to guide you into good posture, sitting at your desk might actually be giving you back pain and discomfort. If you find that sitting for long hours is leaving your back feeling less than optimal, it may be time to check your posture. If you are engaging in these bad posture habits, you may be contributing to your own discomfort. Read on to learn about negative posture habits, so you can catch yourself in the act and straighten out your posture.

The Perils of Perching

If you ever find yourself sitting with your feet propped up on the base of your office chair for long periods of time, than you are guilty of perching. This posture may feel comfortable, but it actually does your body a disservice by restricting blood flow. Placing your feet flat on the ground facing in front of you is a better bet for your body.

Avoid Reclining

Even if your office chair reclines, reclining all the way back and crossing your ankles like you’re kicking back for a netflix binge is not a work-friendly choice. This poor posture also restricts blood flow, and will have you sliding into fatigue faster than you can blink.

Don’t Follow Your Hunch

This is one of the most common poor postures. If you have an ergonomic chair it will support you, and hunching forward rather than leaning back puts unnecessary strain on your neck and spine. Strive to keep your back in contact with the back of your office chair to give yourself the best support and take care of your spine.

Looking Down To Type Will Get You Down

If you have made a habit of constantly looking down to type, you are putting unnecessary strain on your neck, back, and spine. If you haven’t yet mastered the keyboard, the best thing that you can do is to become proficient enough that typing comes automatically. Even once you’ve mastered this skill, make sure your computer is eye level for maximum comfort.
