Learn how to redesign your classroom for the new school year!

We are about a month away from another school year of learning and new experiences.  If you are a returning teacher, right now is the perfect time to redesign and enhance your classroom.  You want to create a learning space where your students can be as productive and comfortable as possible.  Luckily, there are a few simple tips you can follow if you are in the process of redesigning your classroom.

Collaboration Is Key

When redesigning your classroom, you need to take how your students will collaborate into consideration.  The days of teachers lecturing to several rows of students are coming to an end. One of the most effective ways for students to learn is to collaborate with their classmates so that they can have a discussion.  So, when designing your classroom, it is best to have several stations around the room. Make sure that the desks and chairs can be moved easily.

Quiet Spaces Are Essential

Having spaces that fuel collaboration are essential, however, you need to create a space in your classroom that allows students to unwind and refuel.  All students do not learn the same and cannot take constant stimulation. There are some students that benefit from being secluded for a short period of time and having some quiet time to decompress.  There are several ways to create a quiet area in your classroom. You can simply block off a space with a portable whiteboard.

Declutter and Organize

If you are limited in square-footage in your classroom, then it is very important that you keep it as clean as possible.  It is easy for clutter to build up in a classroom especially if you do not have stations for certain items. It is essential that you have storage spaces all over your classroom so that students can put away supplies.  It is wise to invest in bookshelves because they take up less space than cabinets and can be accessed easily. Students can see exactly where they stored items.
