How to Personalize your Office

office

Make your office your own.

Your home is your comfort zone so, why not bring a slice of that into work by personalizing your office? Your workspace, and the way you decorate and organize it, can affect the way you work and the way your workmates or boss perceive you, whether you like it or not. That may seem harsh or a bit unfair, but research shows that how you personalize your space has a direct effect on your mood as well as your productivity. Employees who have control over their workspace are happier, healthier and, ultimately, more productive.

Enjoy Your Environment

  • Board Games and Puzzles: Why not keep one of these stashed away in one of your drawers for your colleagues and workmates? Ideal for lunchbreaks, you and your workmates could have a quick game. It allows you to build a better rapport with your colleagues as well as creating for a fun environment which, in turn, can account for more productivity.
  • Plants: Incorporate plants into your office, as adding a touch of green to your work space carries proven wellness benefits, from boosting productivity to purifying the air. As well as adding a sense of tranquility, indoor air pollution is a major problem in many offices and plants are highly effective in cleaning that air.
  • Photos: Keep pictures of your friends and family close by. Work can sometimes get to everyone; it can certainly cause stress. Though with pictures of loved ones, you can remember that it’s simply a job and things are never as bad as they seem.

Good for Your Health

Several studies have found that open office layouts can negatively impact employee performance. Environmental noise and interruptions can become distracting, impairing workers’ productivity. Employees in open offices have also been found to have higher levels of stress, lower levels of concentration and motivation, and they even seem to take more sick leave. So, this really conveys the importance of a personalized workspace or office, a healthy environment promotes a healthy mind.
