Health Benefits of Ergonomic Chairs

Back and neck pain are things of the past with ergonomic office chairs

If you spend most of your day working a desk, you probably think about your chair pretty often. Is it comfortable, can you adjust it, is it a help or a hindrance? If you think your office chair is causing you back pain or ruining your posture (Spoiler Alert: it is), you should consider the benefits of switching to an ergonomic chair.

Better Posture

Ergonomic chairs are built with posture in mind. Their whole purpose is to help support your posture while sitting, which leads to other benefits. Sitting with both feet flat on the floor, with your knees at a 90 degree angle and parallel with your hips can be done with any chair. Ergonomic chairs, however, help support the natural curve of your back which improves your posture.

Less Back Pain

The backrest on an ergonomic chair is built with enough curve and height to support your back’s natural shape, leading to a more relaxed and comfortable seating position and helping to avoid the “office chair hunch.” The hunch usually affects people that sit leaning towards their computer screen all day, curving the spine in an unnatural way and putting pressure on the nerves and muscles surrounding it.

Lower Risk of Neck Problems

Unlike regular desk chairs, ergonomic chairs include a headrest that helps support your neck. Without a headrest stiffness can occur in the neck and shoulders if your head is left unsupported for too long while sitting. The headrest takes the pressure off of your neck and shoulders, allowing you to work comfortably for a longer period of time.

Make Work More Enjoyable

It’s no surprise that a more comfortable you makes for a more productive and happy you. An ergonomic chair will help you make the most out of your work day and stay comfortable while doing it. Ergonomic chairs and other furniture are proven to help decrease your risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), such as carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis or muscle strain that develop from poor posture.
