3 Ways to Give Your Waiting Room an Upgrade

How much time have you wasted in a hospital or doctor’s office waiting room in your life? Many waiting rooms are very similar – if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all, right? It’s usually not the most pleasant experience: uncomfortable chairs, faded magazines, and outdated decorations make spending time waiting around less-than-fun. But if you manage a doctor’s office, there are ways to make your patients’ experiences much more relaxing and comfortable. Read on to find out three ways you can give your waiting room a much-needed upgrade.

Waiting Room

If you manage a doctor’s office, there are ways to make your patients’ experiences much more relaxing and comfortable.

Making Your Waiting Room Comfortable for Patients

Consider the following ideas to make your waiting room a comfortable and relaxing oasis for your patients:

  • Comfortable seating

It’s bad enough to have to wait for a doctor when you’re feeling sick. Having to sit in a cheap, uncomfortable chair is even worse. Consider quality furniture with plenty of cushioning to keep your patients in the best possible mood while they’re waiting to be seen. Furniture that can be wiped down and cleaned easily is a great choice too, to minimize the spread of germs.

  • Welcoming signage

Though of course you want your office to look clean, there is a difference between clean and stark. Impersonal waiting rooms can leave patients feeling uncomfortable. It’s much more personal and welcoming to put up signs and boards introducing the doctors and that encourage healthy activities. Making your patients feel welcomed is a surefire way to keep them coming back to you the next time they need a doctor’s advice.

  • Make wait time enjoyable

Something as simple as setting up a station with coffee and tea and some healthy snacks can give patients the opportunity to waste a few minutes and keep them feeling comfortable. Depending on your office’s specialization, you may consider setting up shop in your waiting room as well – selling anything from glasses and frames if you’re an optometrist, to toothbrushes and oral hygiene products if you’re a dentist. Shopping is always fun to waste some time and can boost your revenue as well.
