The 4 Things to Consider When Buying an Office Chair

Adjustability

A chair’s adjustability is actually made up of several different factors. These include its height, seat depth, armrests, lumbar support, and reclinability.

Height

Your feet should rest flat on the floor, with your thighs parallel to the ground and your forearms parallel to your desk. If you’re sitting too high, it can limit your blood circulation and put pressure on the area behind your knees. If you’re sitting too low, you’ll put pressure on the bones you sit on.

Seat Depth

Seat depth is how far back you can slide in the seat. Ideally, you’ll have a distance of 3-4 fingers width between the back of your knees and the front edge of your seat. If you sit too far back, you’ll put a strain on your legs and back.

Armrests

You want adjustable armrests in an office chair that let you rest your arms comfortably and get closer to your work. Your forearms should be parallel to the floor when you’re typing.

Lumbar Support

Lumbar support is support for your lower back. You’ll want an adjustable lumbar system that allows you to control firmness and the position of your back. Proper lumbar support will improve your blood flow, focus, and energy levels.

Mobility

Office chairs that move on wheels are generally preferable to stationary chairs. A swiveling seat is also preferable to a stationary seat. If your floor is carpeted, consider getting a plastic mat to improve the ability of the wheels to move.

Seat Material

Seat material for an office chair is more up to personal preference. Still, remember to prioritize comfort over looks, and always try it out before you buy.

Price

Look at your budget and determine what a reasonable amount you can spend on an office chair is. Make sure you stick to your budget.
